Dispatches

Dispatches from the road by Bill Poindexter

Life on the road is always unpredictable, simple sometimes scary most of the time fun- things are generally tight when it comes to money and that’s OK it’s just part of the way it is. I’m still trying to work out my summer plans right now I’m finding myself camping out in the backyard of a friends parents home here on Martha’s Vineyard. Enjoying my day, working, reading, sketching, writing and Cycling spending a lot of time walking the beaches and working out some of the next phase of my life. Most people like me work at the library for Wi-Fi- sort of the transient crowd of vacation people, starving artists, and locals who use it like city people use a coffee shop Wi-Fi. Basically I’m on a bike tour but I’m stationary right now. With the exception of cycling all over the island. People ask what kind of food do I eat when I’m on the road and because moneys tight right now I’m eating basically the same stuff I eat on the road peanut butter fruit veggies, tortilla, tuna canned chicken, refried beans, raisins, nuts and seeds if I can get them and be nutritional as possible. And I’m not ashamed to say that money‘s tight so I can’t really afford grocery shopping specially on this island everything is 20 to 30% higher than it is in Kansas City so I’m taking a vantage of food banks as they are for everybody. And instead of food going to waste I’m taking full advantage of it it’s kind of the way the world is right now. So it’s almost like everything simplifying and those who don’t simplify now will probably have to later at some point. But mostly you know me I keep my simple life.  Today I went to orange peel bakery and talked with the owner, Julie who is interested in me possibly teaching her how to make cheese so that’ll be fun Julie is an entrepreneur through and through has a very unique story which I’ll hopefully write about later. And I spent morning time at Aquinnah, walking the beach taking some pictures and then having a fine brunch overlooking the ocean and since people are curious about what I eat on the road I took some pictures of different food. So I’m having a good time being on the road again I’m still working out the summer and not exactly sure what’s going to happen I have a place till now till Sunday and then we’ll see from there and then I’ll be camping in some woods. I wish I had something super interesting right but this is actually my life right now I am in kind of a limbo place on Martha’s Vineyard and it’s like I told my friend Aimee I could always come back to Kansas City but I’d be in limbo there too so why not be in limbo on a beautiful island, right? I woke up this morning at midnight amd stayed up a couple of hours to watch the sky, the milky way’s show did not disappoint me…we are nothing. I wrote a long story after but it is a little dark, even for me….so not going to share yet:) I am glad I like being alone. More interesting stories will come soon! Peace and love from the road Bill Poindexter
